Doubles Quarter Finals and Semi Final Placings!

Thursday, 16th May 2013, saw the Quarter Finals of the Doubles and some mouth-watering matches which didn’t disappoint!

Feeling the effects of their match from the night before which saw them edge through 5-4, the pairing of Leigh Morshead and Steve Ring were gunned down 5 nil by the deadly duo of Kevin Bassett and Paul Walters in what appears on paper a very one sided affair and sends out a message of intent to the others still in this years competition!
In the second Quarter Final of the night there was a much closer match played which saw Chris Tate and Bill Docherty squeeze past the pairing of Paul Wogel and Ivor Woodhouse. With the match evenly balanced at 4 all, Paul Wogel had an easy opportunity on the black of the deciding frame to grasp victory for himself and his partner only to see his effort miss handing the opportunity to their opponents who seized the moment and booked their semi-final spot!

In the third Quarter Final match play at Club 8 we had Rob Morshead and Rubin Ball taking on Des Woods and Jeff Reed who have enjoyed an excellent season with the Dukes Head. This match looked to be a great prospect and didn’t disappoint! The match saw Rob and Rubin run out 5-1 in a match of very few errors and some great attacking pool and ensure there would be one member of the Morshead Family remaining in this year’s competition!

In the final Quarter Final we found Jamie Newington and Terry Harding who have enjoyed an excellent campaign taking on Keith Tilbury and his partner who put up some stern opposition to take Jamie and Terry all the way only to lose out in the final deciding frame and lose the match 5-4 and the boys from The Sun to progress!

The Semi Final matchups will be posted shortly!

The placings for the Quarter Finals are finally complete after Leigh Morshead and Steve Ring scraped over the line in a narrow 4-3 victory! Could have been a totally different as the final frame went to the black ball with Paul Hawkins missing the black which would have given him and his partner Shane Weir victory and booked their place in the Quarter Finals but they handed the initiative back to Morshead and Ring who lapped up the opportunity to progress!

The Doubles Quarter Finals becomes clearer!

Despite awaiting some fixtures to be played the situation is clearer now for the quarter finals this Thursday! It what appears to be a shock, Dallas Godfrey and Tommy Brookman were beaten by the pairing of Keith Tilbury and Chris Hill who now move on to face Jamie Newington and Terry Harding who have been playing well having disposed of Sean Watson and Alfonso Gomes in the previous round!

The partnership of Sam Howard and Helen Mitchell found the pairing of Bill Docherty and Chris Tate a little too strong to make the quarter finals and so it is Chris and Bill who move on to face Ivor Woodhouse and Paul Wogel who battled through a tough match themselves and edged out Richard Levesconte and Alan Halward 4-3 in the previous round.
Rob Morsehead and Rubin Ball having disposed of Karl Moulin and David Thompson in the previous round with a strong display winning 4 nil now face a tougher challenge in the shape of Des Woods and Jeff Reed who despite finishing 3rd in their group are mounting quite a challenge disposing of firstly Mick Worsfold and Nick Carr and then the pairing of Justin Corio and Lee Jones!

The only fixture that is currently unclear could give a bumper tie as Paul Walters and Kevin Bassett who made light work of Steve Johnson and Scott Randall and chalking their cues awaiting the winners of Paul Hawkins and Shane Weir who are taking on Leigh Morshead and Steve Ring!

BDPL Winter League 2012 Week 4

Week 4 of the BDPL Winter League saw the Teams take a break from League action with the First Round of the Keith Strong Memorial Team Knock-out Trophy.

And it was a First Round not short of a few shocks with several sides finding thenselves dumped out of the Main Competition by lower League opposition. Perhaps the most eye catching upset came at the Club 8, with the Summer League Finalists finding themselves edged out 7-6 in thrilling contest.

In another shock, the Golden Farmer - who have endured a stuttering start to their Season heaped more misery of Club 8 A who have themselves had a poor start, with a comfortable 7-3 victory which sees Club 8 A still without a win after the first month of the Season.

Meanwhile, the Village Inn, third bottom of Division 2, pulled off another big shock as they edged out the Prince of Wales, one of Division 1's promotion favourites 7-6 to dump the latter into the Plate Competition.

Elsewhere, two of the Cup favourites are breathing a sight of relief as they squeezed through into Round 2 following big scares. The William Twigg A were given a real test by the early Division 2 pace setters, the Dukes Head. before eventually coming through with a 7-5 victory. Meanwhile, in the only all Premier League tie of Round 1 the other William Twigg side needed a deciding frame to see off the Bridge House in an absolutely thrilling contest which saw the Twigg 3-0 down early on in the match.

In other results, the Squirrels forgot their lamentable League form with a comfortable 7-2 victory against a hastily assembled Goose side. The Sun are another Premier League side into Round 2, having withstood a determined performance by the Crown Wood SC which saw the sides locked at 4-4 at one point, before the Sun won the final three frames to ease through 7-4.

The Crowthorne Club and Green Man Old Boys complete the Premier League contingent safely into Round 2 as they continued their excellent starts to the Season with comfortable 7-2 victories against the Royal Oak B and Molly Millar respectively.

Meanwhile, a healthy contingent of Division 1 sides are also safely through to Round 2 having come through ties against lower League opposition. The Boot, without a League win so far this Season, will hope their 7-2 victory over Division 2's the Cannie Man will kickstart their Season, whilst the William Twigg B will be hoping likewise as their 7-4 victory over a Royal Oak A side who have started the Season well sees the Twigg overcome a potential banana skin.

In the evening's only tie involving two sides from Division 2, the Woodcutters B put their Week 3 mauling at the hands of the Dukes Head firmly behind them as they bounced back immediately to record a routine 7-3 victory over Bracknell FC.
